I'm wondering how the majority of Designer users are placing Work Locations in their designs.

I am currently using the Automatic method and finding that I must move ever single Work Location that is placed because it's too close to the design feature.

What method are you using for placing Work Locations?

What, specifically led you to use that method?

Have you built your own AUs to automatically place Work Locations further
away from design features?

I appreciate your feedback,
george

George, we are using automatic placement. The AU is a custom one that MM included as part of our Designer implementation.

The AU does not move the WL away from the placed feature. We actually don't have a reason to want to see the WL so we made the symbol so small in the Designer stored display that you can't see it unless you zoom in close. And the layer isn't included in the other stored displays so the placement of the WL isn't an issue for us.

We use auto placement like Jim described. However, I've been asking M&M to make the distance a parameter that we can set, but they haven't added it yet. I would like them to be placed closer to the feature I'm placing.

Miner & Miner, PLEASE ADD THIS!

Duane,

>>I would like them to be placed closer to the feature I'm placing.

This is interesting. Our Work Locations are being placed within 5' of our features. I would prefer more like 20'.

My Designers like the Work Location feature and the Construction Crews use them as a reference to the Inventor Report in the field.

I'm with you in voting for having a configuration for the distance away from a feature the Work Location is automatically placed.

George

We place automatic, but do not display the feature. Instead we use labels to place the look and # of the WL, and with ESRI's Mapplex engine, we rarely see overstrikes.

George, we have chosen to place manually for the very reason you mentioned...the WL's are placed too close and they all have to be moved. We also vote for a configurable distance parameter, then we would use the automatic feature.

We are using the AU and auto placement of the WL. We left the seetings as the default, and just move the symbol over. This seems to work perfect for us.
