Morning all,

My company is in the early stages of deploying Designer and I'm trying to figure out our options for producing construction drawing for designs that require multiple sheets.

The issue I see that makes our situation difficult is that each sheet will contain different "details" which makes using a "standard" Page Template next to impossible.

I would like to hear how other users have addressed this issue and see if we might be able to employ similar methods here.

One thought that has crossed my mind is to have our Design Engineers save MXD files of their completed design and generate the hardcopy from these MXD files. We could have one MXD for each sheet required for the job. Each sheet/MXD could contain what ever detail or note combination was required for the situation. Additionally, the MXD file would support mutiple Data Frames which the standard Stored Display does not.

We have a lot of "non-GIS stuff" that's included in our construction drawings so we just export the data to AutoCad and make the updates and plot the construction drawings from there. We received a DXF Export application from MM as part of our Designer implementation.

For every design, we create a four (4) sheet set. For each sheet we have created an ARCFM Document with different symbology and labels for what that sheet is describing. The sheet types are:
1. Design Notes & Overview Map
2. Site Work Layout
3. Conduit Layout
4. Electric Layout


To print, the Designer will load each document, zoom to the Design extent, change the project name, and print to a EPS file. It only takes a few secs to change between docuements. Then will combine the EPS files into one PDF file and print from that file to paper.

We want the ability to put these into a map book within designer, but currently the way map books work, it increases the complexity for the designer.

Intreresting thread on saving as an EPs and importing into a PDF. We have the same concerns with trying to print multiple sheets. We are having trouble as well due to the complexity for the designers to use mapbook, and we have a mandate to move away from CAD wherever possible. So we will probably look into the EPs. Thanks for the tip!
